Ruth Clapp Bitting, 95, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully and went to meet our father in heaven on August 1, 2020. Born to Charles (Rebecca) Ginebaugh on August 3, 1924.Ruth is survived by her children, James Clapp Sr., Julie (Gary) Westmaas and Sue Flannery. Grandchildren Angella Phebus, James Clapp II, Michael Clapp, Laura Benish, Kenny Flannery, Melanie Colson and Darren Greenman and 12 Great-Grandchildren. Sisters Betty Smith, Shirley Kristin, sister n law Beverley Ginebaugh and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Charles (Rebecca) Ginebaugh, husband Clifford Bitting, former husband Kieth William Clapp and siblings Jean Green, Gilbert Ginebaugh, Doris Handley, William Ginnebaugh and granddaughter Rebecca Ruth Westmaas. Also preceded in death by Sidney Blake Morgan and Aaron Flannery.Ruth taught Art and English at Northview High School for more than 30 years. She ran an Art Club and was active in the Michigan Art and Education Association. The Northview Art Department recognized Ruth for her excellence in teaching. Ruth touched many students during her years at Northview. She lived her life according to a quote from Mother Teresa, “A life not lived for others is not a life.” Ruth had the most contagious smile, and loved with a childlike heart. She was truly a blessing to all who knew her.Visitation for Ruth will be Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Reyers North Valley Chapel Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Guests are required to wear a mask and observe social distancing. The funeral home is allowing 10 people into the building at a time, other guests will be asked to wait outside.
