Shannon Kay Phelps, 78, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away, with loved ones by her side, on August 19, 2024. She was born October 16, 1945 in Grand Rapids as the fourth child of Vivian Myrtle and Timothy James Naughton. Shannon was married to Donald F. Yaw for 22 years, the father of her three children, Donald Edward, Shannon Lynne, and Sean Eric. She enjoyed being a softball coach for Northern Little League for several years. Shannon worked at the Boy Scouts of America and later worked with her son, Don and daughter, Shannie at Allegra Print and Imaging in production and bindery. Shannon married Thomas Lyle Phelps on December 9th, 1988. They shared the best of times at their property in Lakeview, MI where they enjoyed nurturing a bountiful garden and hosting family and friends for kickball games, softball games, cookouts, and bonfires. Tom and Shannon also enjoyed traveling around Michigan, taking in the sights and great food at local restaurants. The true joys for Shannon were her grandchildren. Mention one of their names and her face would light up and she would immediately talk about the special qualities of that person and how much she loved them. Anyone that knew Shannon knew she loved her Irish heritage, dessert, and especially her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Timothy, mother Vivian, step-father, Percy Beardsley, brother, Michael Naughton, and granddaughters, Kaitlynne Yaw and Danielle Magnan. She is survived by her husband, Thomas, children Donald (Nancy) Yaw, Shannon (James) Hager, Sean Yaw, and step-children Lyle (Marci) Phelps and Lisa (Joe) Magnan. Also survived by her are her grandchildren, Madeline (Arden Knoll) Yaw, Tyler (Mariah) Hager, Jesse (Emily Brown) Hager, Jackson Yaw, Andrew Yaw, Shannon Yaw, Jonah Phelps, Lydia Phelps, Lucas Phelps, Thomas Magnan, James Magnan, and Jessica Magnan.
