Sharon Kaye Harmsen

Sharon was a graduate of Coopersville High School and went on to study at Davenport University. In her working years, she did bookkeeping at several schools and colleges in the Grand Rapids area. She loved reading, sewing, and was a gifted musician. Sharon played piano and sang in several churches throughout her life. In her later years, she and her husband would winter in Florida, eventually becoming Florida residents for several years before returning home a few years ago to be closer to family. She was a long time member of Blythefield Christian Reformed Church and was involved in the Stephen's Ministries in Florida. Sharon was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Sharon was preceded in death by: her husband of 64 years, Robert Harmsen; mother, Hazel (Hanson) Collar; her sister, Mary Belle Johnson; and her brothers, Ellwyn Hanson, Robert Hanson, and Deane Hanson.

Sharon is survived by: her children, Linda (Ray) DeWinkle, Roberta (John) Dykstra, Mary (Brian) Parsons, Lois (Dan) Oomkes, and James (Tina) Harmsen; grandchildren, Nathan (Leslie) DeWinkle, Joseph (Ty) DeWinkle, Ben (Ophelia) DeWinkle, Ruth (Quan) Burns, Ryan Dykstra, Robert Parsons, Katie Oomkes, Matthew Oomkes, Jacob (Rayni) Oomkes, Dolan Harmsen, and Lachlan Harmsen; 3 great-grandchildren; her brother, Leon Hanson; her sisters-in-law, Helen Hanson, and Barbara (Al) Buitendorp; as well as, many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at 11:00 am at Blythefield Christian Reformed Church, 6350 Kuttshill Dr NE, Rockford, MI 49341. The family will welcome guests prior starting at 9:30 am.
