

Susanne R. Osmer, aged 90, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Sue had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for many years. Born in Flint, MI in December of 1927, Sue was the youngest daughter of Max and Helen Rumbold. She attended Flint Northern High School and graduated from Michigan State College in 1949, where she received a BS in Home Economics and Child Development. In the early 1950’s, Sue moved from Flint to Grand Rapids where she began a long career teaching in the Grand Rapids Public Schools. Susanne was a loving wife, mom and grandma and the best fan at her 5 grandsons many sporting events. Her many hobbies included golf, gardening, bridge, puzzles, reading, traveling and crewing for her husband John at the Grand Rapids Yacht Club for many years. She was a beautiful seamstress and knitter and could pretty much make anything including wonderful Halloween costumes. Sue was a proud and active member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was a dedicated volunteer at Michigan Blood and donated over 1,000 hours of her time. She also volunteered hundreds of hours at Kent Hills Elementary and St. Andrews Episcopal Church. In her later years, she loved to spend time at “The Cottage” especially canoeing, looking for Petoskey Stones and watching her grandsons swim and play. Sue is survived by her daughters, Deb (Mark) Posthumus and Linda (Steve) DeRoos, grandsons, David (Whitney) Posthumus, Michael (Rachel) Posthumus, Erik (Amy) DeRoos, Brett (Brittany) DeRoos, Kyle (Mallory) DeRoos and 4 great grandchildren, Evelyn, Darren, Oscar, and Boone. She was welcomed home to heaven by John, her husband of 53 years and her siblings Jeanette, Robert and Phillip. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the 4th floor staff at Raybrook Manor as well as Faith Hospice for their care of Sue for many years. To celebrate Sue’s life, family and friends will gather on Saturday, February 17 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1025 3 Mile Rd NE Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 12:00 with a memorial service at 12:00 noon. Memorials are suggested to Faith Hospice, (2100 Raybrook St. SE STE 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546), St. Andrews Memorial Garden, (1025 3 Mile Rd NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505) or the Alzheimer’s Association, (2944 Fuller Ave. NE STE 101, Grand Rapids, MI 49505).
