

Walter Robert Damskey, age 83 passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015 in the company of his wife and best friend of 63 years, Frances. Walter was born in Bismarck, North Dakota to the late Leonard and Susan Damskey in 1931. He is also preceded in death by his sister Lucille Meier and is survived by his brother Leo Damskey. Walter will be deeply missed by his wife Frances, his 3 children Dennis (Susan) Damskey, Mary (Michael Ashura) Damskey, and Kathleen (Michael) Woodbury. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Hope Ashura, Andrew (Catherine) Woodbury, and Nolan Woodbury. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a devoted employee of Mid America Potato for many years until his retirement in 1993. Walter served on the City Council in Wyoming. He was a longtime member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He and his wife Frances were avid volunteers with the Red Cross Disaster Relief and the West Michigan Blood Bank. Walter had many hobbies and passions such as singing, sailing and model railroading. He and Frances also spent many years at their cottage on Silver Lake, enjoying time with the kids and grandkids. Walter was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Please join the family for a time of visitation on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Reyers North Valley Chapel from 6-8pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Friday, July 17, 2015 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (224 Carrier St. Ne, Grand Rapids, MI) with an additional hour of visitation prior.
