Betty Jean (Marlett) Bates of Grandview, MO passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the age of 85. Betty was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to sew, crafting, and dabbled in ceramics. Mom loved flower gardening, and each house they ever lived in she would re-landscape every yard with loads of flowers.
Betty was born August 17, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to William G. and Doris M. (Funk) Marlett.
Betty and Quinton Bates, Sr. were united in marriage on December 12, 1959. They had five children.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Doris; brother Junior Marlett; her beloved son Harold LoChiano; granddaughter Lori Ann Sharp; grandson Jeremy Bates; great-granddaughter Merica Wilbanks. Betty is survived by a sister Nancy Vedder; her husband of 61 years Quinton Bates, Sr; three sons Greg LoChiano (wife Estella), Bailey Bates, Terry Bates; daughter Melissa Cox (husband David); grandchildren Joshua Bates, Chris Bates, Trista Johnson, Teresa Bates, Cody Bates, Ashley Harman, Erica Howard, Shaun Cox, Alyssa Cox; great-grandchildren Garrett Johnson, Trenton Johnson, Zoey Bates, Christopher Bates, Jeremy Bates, Emma Kaye Bates, Joey Sharp, Aiden Harman, Payton Harman, Cameron Howard, Carson Howard, Kylee Connell; and great-great- grandchild Jackson Johnson.
