1922-2014
Billie passed away peacefully on February 10, 2014 at The Beautiful Savior Skilled Nursing Center in Belton, Missouri, following an extended stay at Carondolet Manor.
Billie Jean was born in Jackson County, Missouri, May 25, 1922 to John and Ethel (Everhart) Perkins. She graduated from Grandview High School and on November 16, 1940, she married her High School Sweetheart, James F. Roberts, shortly before he left to join the Marines.
Billie assumed the awesome responsibility of raising their first three children while James F. was away. Upon completion of his military duties they continued to raise their five children in Martin City, Missouri.
Being forced to move because of the damage by the 1957 tornado they opted to move to Grandview where their older children were attending High School.
On January 14, 1973 (Super Bowl Sunday), James F. Roberts died unexpectedly and suddenly.
Billie worked at the School Cafeteria before taking a job in Anne’s Card Shop and later clerking at Revco Drug Store, both at Grandview Plaza.
For the past 7 years Billie resided at The Truman Farm Villas where she spent the majority of her time reading or watching her favorite football and basketball teams, The Chiefs, Missouri University and her “Little Kansas State boys”. She also always counted on the fun times with her family for her birthday and Christmas when all her children and grandchildren would celebrate with her.
“G-G-Ma”, as she was called by some of the family, will be sorely missed but the memories are everlasting. We love you Mom.
Survived by her children, Joyce Reisner, Jay (Jackie) Roberts, Jimmie (Sharon) Roberts, Jean (Van) Vandiver, Jan (Tom) Ulke and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. One brother, John Perkins, also survives.
