We mourn the loss of Jean McLafferty, (Momma Jean) who passed away on April 30, 2024, at the age of 88 in Grandview, Missouri, United States. She was born on August 25, 1935, to Joseph and Mary Ellen (Reese) Boyce.
In 1964, Jean married Michael McLafferty (Tripoli,Libya) and together they raised two children, in Grandview, Missouri: Mary Ellen McLafferty (Olathe, Kansas) and Cathleen McLafferty (Grandview, Missouri). She leaves behind an older sister, Mary Ellen Bertoldi (nephew Victor), and a younger brother, Joseph Boyce (wife Rosemary, nephews Joseph, Brian, nieces Laurie, and Mary Pat). She also leaves behind a foreign exchange daughter, Digna Susan Tancioco-Sunga (nephew Cobi) from the Philippines.
Jean was a devoted wife and mother who worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield and also volunteered her time at the Nelson Atkins Museum organization.
Aside from her professional life, Jean had a passion for gardening and knitting. She found joy in tending to her flowers and creating beautiful hand-knit items for her loved ones (especially hats for premature newborns).
Unfortunately, Jean battled dementia and breast/bone cancer in her later years, ultimately succumbing to these illnesses. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering strength.
Rest in peace, Jean McLafferty. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Jean will be cremated and services will be at a later date
