

Ronald W. Tibbetts, 81, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2010 with his family at his side. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 29 at McGilley & George Funeral Home 12913 Grandview Rd Grandview, MO. Burial will follow in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations made in remembrance of Ron can be sent to the Marine Corps League Scholarship Fund, KC Detachment, PO Box 35, Grandview, MO 64030-0035. Ron was born on May 21, 1929 in Bangor, Maine. Starting on July 16, 1947, he proudly served our country for 20 years in the United States Marine Corps and retired from active duty as a Master Sergeant. For the next 20 years, Ron worked as a civilian with the Marine Corps Finance Center. He was known in Grandview as "The Bike Man," repairing bikes in his garage for neighbors and Longview Lake bicyclists. Ron was a founding member of Bikes & Trikes for Tykes, an organization that acquired parts and rebuilt bikes so that hundreds of metro area children could receive bikes each Christmas. Ron was also an active volunteer with the Camp Fire Girls Organization and a member of the Marine Corps League and the Marine Corps Disbursing Association. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Janco Tibbetts. He is survived by his daughters, Debra Calvert of Morgan Hill, CA, and Amy Spellman of Lee's Summit, MO; his sons-in- law, Kinley Calvert and Scott Spellman, his grandchildren Renee Calvert, Austin Calvert and Sam Spellman; and his brothers Royce Tibbetts and Richard Tibbetts of Belfast, Maine.
