Alice would be the first to tell you how lucky she was to have led the life she lived. She was an accomplished artist who loved her career of teaching art to high school and middle school students in Grandville. After retirement, Alice became more involved with her own paint brushes and participated in various Plein Air painting groups both here in Michigan and down in Englewood, Florida where she and Jerry wintered the past 17 years. Alice was quick to make friends everywhere she went and found beauty in the smallest and the simplest of situations. Anyone who has ridden in a car with Alice knows, very well, about her sight seeing adventures: "Look at that barn!", "Jerry, look at the deer!", "Kids, look at the clouds!". Alice never stopped teaching art - she made all of us look at the world differently, always searching out the beauty that was right there in front of us all.
Alice was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Wendy Simpson, just this past year, and is survived by her adoring husband Jerry of 55 years and two remaining children Julie Gleason (Eric) and Mark Neidlinger (Steve Merouse) and son-in-law Rich Simpson. Alice and Jerry took particular pride in their four grandchildren, Andy and Matt Simpson (Wendy) and Kinsey and Riley Mack (Julie). Alice was the daughter of Vern and Margaret (Ruth) Mabie, and the sister to Patricia (Kooistra) and Robert Mabie.
A celebration of Alice’s life will be held at Georgetown Methodist church on Sunday, March 12 at 6:30pm with a visitation starting at 5pm.
