Amy was born in the Netherlands April 29, 1931 to Dick and Elizabeth (DenHartigh) Gootjes. Amy was a living example of Christ's love. She gave of her heart freely and purposefully brought those on the outside into the midst of the communities that she built. Anyone who had the privilege of having Amy in their lives learned that loving people was impossible if there were conditions attached. She believed that any excuse for an adventure was a good excuse and would never refuse a hike through the woods and ravines with a child hand in hand. Her legacy remains because of her example and wisdom that knew actions are always the best way to show others how much they are loved.
Amy was preceded in death by her son, Albert Vos; grandson Jeffrey DeVries; brothers, John (Theressa) Gootjes and Kees Gootjes, brothers-in-law, Gerrit Prins and John Postema.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, John Vos; children, Jocelyn (Jim) Nederhood, Lizabeth (Dean) Brock, and David Vos; nine grandchildren and their spouses; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Winnie Prins, Betty Postema, Dick (Carol) Gootjes, Peter (Ann) Gootjes, Paul Gootjes, and Annette Gootjes; sister-in-law, Ann Gootjes; and nieces and nephews.
Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Fulton Manor Chapel, 1450 Fulton St. E., Grand Rapids. Relatives and friend may meet Amy’s family from 1 - 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fulton Manor Chapel. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery.
