HESS - Mrs. Betty Jean Hess, age 72 of Wyoming, passed away Thursday, September 30, 1999. She was preceded in death by her father Herman VanBelkum and two sisters, Mary Lou VanBelkum and Edna Ruth Ellis. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gerald H. Hess; children Mary Barry Shannon, Marcia David Coates, Roger Karen Hess; grandchildren, Shawn Shannon, Dusti Jonathan Griffith, Todd and Tonya Coates, Jake and Kara Hess; mother Mildred M. VanBelkum; brother Herman Joyce VanBelkum; sisters, Bertha M. Al Smith, Jacqueline Veldboom; brother Carl Cathy VanBelkum. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 4, 1999, at Cook Memorial Chapel east building, 4235 Prairie SW, with Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Grandville Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home west building. The family requests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
