To Connie and family: While I only knew Cindy professionally at GRCC, I feel lucky to have memories of her as a smart, funny, wry person whose diminutive stature, pretty face and long blonde hair completely belied the toughness that could manage Sarah Palin's visit, open ticking packages I'll tell you the story sometime and bring miscreants to their knees with one stare.  When I started working at the Wyoming Police Department in 1981, Cindy was one of only two women law enforcement officers working there. She was one of a kind and taught me many things, but the two that I remember most and that encompassed who she was, were to be who you are and be strong. She became a very good friend and I will miss her wisdom, smile, humor, kindness and friendship. She was the best of the best! May the honor of knowing her greatness, both personally and professionally, bring peace and comfort to you and your family, at this time of your loss.

When I first met Cindy at Grand Rapids Community College I was taken back by her beauty and charm and found it hard to believe she was our Chief of Police. I soon found out that she was a no nonsense gal that took pride in her profession and yet her beauty and charm were always present. She was a unique person and one that I came to respect as we worked together over the years.

It brought to mind all the times she provided me with support and encouragement on my journey. Although I was surprised and saddened today to read the email on her passing, she will not be forgotten. The rapidity of her demise from ALS was somewhat shocking, but my initial and forever lasting memory of Cindy, as I have expressed to you before, was the excitement in her voice when I first made contact with her in my hunt for you for our 50th Prep Reunion. Bob, A voice out of your past. I got the sad news about Cindy from Mick Rahn.Marjee and I visited Mick last year in Grand Rapids and enjoyed talking about Round Lake and the "Good Olde Days". We actually went down to the lake and visited old friends--saw Bookie and Bessie Bookwalter and old haunts. We talked about you and the time about 8-10 yrs ago already--when I was in GR and you, Mick and I went to lunch. Marjee and I are very saddened about the news on Cindy. I remember Cindy very well. I remember long chats cruiser to cruiser at 44th and Division in the early 1980's. Cindy relayed a lot of what she had gone through as first female at Wyoming PD and I was struggling with being first female at Kentwood PD. Cindy was a true inspiration and she gave support and insight freely. She was smart and talented and a very good cop! She blazed trails that she never knew about and influenced so many people - always with a smile and tact. To her family: my deepest condolences and prayers that you will find some sort of peace in the knowledge that she was loved and will be missed by many.
