

Gordon Laninga, age 78, went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Gord will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn Laninga (Keizer); his children, Valerie and Ron Snoeyink, Vonda and Jon DeKleine, Vicki and Jon VandenHeuvel; his grandchildren, Danielle, Levi, Cameron Snoeyink, MacKenzie (Justin) Gregg, Colton, Dawson DeKleine, Whitney, Sydney, Carly VandenHeuvel; his sisters, Carole Reitberg, Ruth (Sherwin) Kamps; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Gloria (Jack) DeMaat, Jerry (Marilyn) Keizer, Ron Keizer; and his nieces and nephews.
Gord was the owner of Laninga Appliance in Byron Center for many years. After retiring as business owner, Gord continued to work for his Lord, Jesus Christ. He volunteered at Crossroads Bible Institute, Byron Ministries and was very involved in his church and community. He helped start the local Transport for Christ Mobile Chapel and served as a volunteer chaplain. It was his passion to encourage truckers and lead them to faith in Christ. He was a quiet worker who loved to serve behind the scenes. He loved to work side by side with his grandchildren, breathing his values into their lives.
A time for relatives and friends to visit with Gord's family will be held 6 to 8 PM Saturday and 1 to 3 PM Sunday, August 24, at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW. Funeral services will be held 7 PM Sunday, August 24, at First Christian Reformed Church of Byron Center, 2450 85th St. SW. Rev. Tom Groelsema and Rev. Ron Noorman will be officiating. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery. In honor of Gord, contributions may be made to First Christian Reformed Church - Antioch Fund (mission scholarship) or Transport for Christ.
