Dorothy Mae Fernhout

FERNHOUT Dorothy Mae Fernhout, age 67, of Wayland, formerly of Byron Center, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Thursday, January 30, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Christena Kuik.

Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 43 years, Pastor Bill Fernhout; her children, Michael (Christy) Fernhout, Kristen (Greg) Schreur, Carmen (Todd) Schrotenboer, Matthew (Kimberly) Fernhout; her grandchildren, Emma, Ian, Alaina Fernhout, Annie, Jack, Charlie Schreur, Luke, Maria, Isaac Schrotenboer, Brendan, Riley Fernhout; her siblings, Gordon (Helene) Kuik, Char (Cal) Los, Jerome (Phyllis) Kuik; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She kept a prayer list by the phone with little notes about different people and situations she brought before God. Dorothy was a Special Education teacher for her career and also volunteered with the Friendship Program at church. She also traveled around the world serving and helped to startup two schools in the Philippines. Her family will cherish the memories of vacations in Gulf Shores and the time spent on the beach together. A time for relatives and friends to visit with Dorothy's family will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM Monday at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW. Memorial services will be held 12 PM Tuesday, February 4th, at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Road, in Kalamazoo, with Rev. Dale Slings and Rev. Phil Kok officiating.
