Dorothy Mapes

She is survived by children Lynne (Dan) Mapes-Riordan, Christine (Jim) Mapes-Pearson, Kathleen Mapes (Dean Atkin), and Mary Mapes; sister, Meri (Mike) Waldrep; grandchildren Michael Mapes-Pearson (Casey Darnell), Adrian Mapes-Riordan, Eileen Mapes- Riordan, Mathias Mapes-Pearson, Dorothy Atkin-Mapes, Frances Mapes-Pearson, Wendy Atkin-Mapes, and Rita D’Agostino; friends Ann Sandberg, Melody Kingma, Pat Hornbeck, Ben and Kathy Hutchins, and Dan and Debbie Masterson; and many other friends.

Dorothy spent 34 years teaching history and political science at GRCC. She traveled to over 20 countries. She was a huge Spartan basketball fan. As a master Pinochle player, she was most proud of her perfect hand. Her perfect day was spent with family and friends in the backyard pool.

Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday December 5, 2019 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday December 6, 2019 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), with visitation from 1 - 3 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Dorothy, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
