

Edward Leo Daley, "Coach Daley," age 59, was welcomed into Heaven on May 21, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. Greeting him in Heaven are his parents, Elizabeth (Rehs) Daley and Robert Daley. Mourning his departure is his wife of 19 years, Valerie and his children Lisa (Matt) Blok, Courtney, Sean, Chelsea, George, Caitlin, Megan and Eddie (Megan) as well as grand-children Miranda Ham, Kylie and Hayli. Ed is also survived by his brothers Bill (Sue), Pat (Chris), Kevin (Michelle), sister Robin and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was raised in Akron Ohio. After serving in the Air Force, he graduated from Akron University as a Special Education Teacher. He ran group homes for those with mental retardation and mental illness. He volunteered with Special Olympics and Area Association of Retarded Citizens. While in Ohio, he coached football, basketball and baseball for the Catholic Youth Organization. He was a life time member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church putting in many hours of service to serve the church. Later in life, he became a union welder. Since moving to Michigan in 1998, Ed supported the Jenison Community by coaching Cub Football, Georgetown Little League, AYSO soccer, YMCA t-ball, intramural basketball and indoor soccer. In addition, he volunteered for Boy Scouts, Holy Cross Lutheran Church Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and various programs for Sandy Hill Elementary, Jenison Junior and Senior High Schools. He was a foster parent for children with special needs.
Ed fought melanoma with dignity and strength from God. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the excellent care they provided, in particular, "The Dream Team," Sharon, Steve, Larry, Dulcie and Stephanie. The family would like to say a special thank you to his son-in-law and best friend Matt, friends Jenny and Kyle Kozeny, Michele and John Bowne and Richard Zavitz. In addition, the love and support from their many friends and the Jenison Community for meals, cards, prayers and love.
Visitation with the family will be held from 2 - 4pm and 6 - 8pm, Thursday, May 24th at Cook Funeral Home in Jenison 1889 Baldwin Street. Funeral service will be held at 12 pm noon on Friday, May 25th at the Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior at 11am. Pastor Dennis Gilbert will be officiating. Interment will be at Georgetown Cemetery. After interment all friends and kids he coached are invited to the family's home for a celebration of his life.
