I could really tell it was the greatest gift you had was your precious son. I remember dancing like little kids with you at the dance party’s that weekend. Our conversation were so beautiful. Then when God placed our seats next to each other at the Toby Mac concert! How FUN! You were an angel Lizz and will always be in our hearts until we meet again. Your infectious smile lives on through your Griffin and blesses all who sees it. I’m grateful to have known you on this side of our journey. Tell Kev I say hi :)

Lizz & I have known each other since elementary. We stayed in touch through the years as much as possible. She was also there when my youngest daughter was born! She was beyond the sweetest person I've ever met! I've never met anyone as strong as her and am deeply saddened she was taken away so soon. Until we meet again Libby.

Lizz left an unmistakable mark on my life and heart. Out of all of the people I met on my cancer journey, she faced this monster with grace, strength, courage and pure honesty. Most of all, she faced it with an unshakable faith. We had conversations about our fears and all the emotions that this disease forces upon us and our family members. Her love for God and people shined through every tear that fell. It was what drew me to her. I will never understand why her life was so short. I only knew her a short time and I feel a hole with her not here. I go to God in sorrow and in gratitude.... because He gave me this gift of knowing Lizz and that has made me a better person.

Lizz, you were truly an amazing, beautiful, strong, talented, inspiring warrior! I miss you so much already! Though you were in pain you handled yourself with so much grace. You were always amazing when even though you were hurting you could still find beautiful and positive things still going on around you. You were a champion. I also remember seeing the love that you radiated whenever you would watch Griffin and Scott together. Your love for them was completely unconditional. Even close to the end, I will never forget you looking at Scott saying "I love you so much" and making sure he heard you you said "You know that right, I love you!" I love you Lizz, though we are sad because you went home, we just can't wait for the day we will get to see you again!

The most recent memory that I have of Lizz is how much fun is girls had at our 10 year high school reunion. I am so glad we got that photo of all of us. Lizz was such a beautiful person inside and out.  I am so blessed to have known her.  We started a new job together and she was the best person to be on that journey with.  She was always so encouraging and always had a smile on her face.  Though we didn’t work together for too long, we were both pregnant at the same time and talked about our pregnancies, then about being new moms once our baby boys were brought into the world.  Being a mom is one of the greatest blessings in life and I am so glad she got to experience that with you Griffin!  Children bring so much joy into our lives and it was clear that you were such a blessing to your mom.  No matter what she was going through, she was always so positive and didn’t let anything stop her from worshiping our Lord!  She has been so inspirational to me and has made a huge impact on my life by the way she lived hers.  She showed the best way to live life no matter what challenges are thrown our way.  You will be greatly missed by so many Lizz.  My prayers continue for you Scott and Griffin.  I am so sorry Lizz is not here with you anymore but you now have a beautiful guardian angel.  Jesus Your Love is one of my favorite comforting songs when dealing with loss.  May the love of Jesus help carry you through your grieving.

I knew Lizz was special when I met her as an intern for the Arena District more then 10 years ago. My heart broke for the struggles she faced but she was an inspiration and blessing to so many. She is a true angel and I will always offer prayers for her husband Scott and beautiful boy Griffin.

I met Lizz as her marketing professor at GVSU nearly 9 years ago, but got "reacquainted" with her after literally bumping in to each other at Lemmen-Holton.  My heart was broken to see one of my first students walking such a hard road, but she inspired me with her joy and stretched my faith.  We got to pray together every time we saw each other.  I have many "cancer friends" I've met because of this disease, but Lizz was truly one that was very special to me.  She was beautiful inside and out. It was a honor to walk this journey with her, and I look forward to giving her a giant hug when I see her again.  It's so hard to see the good in this, but I trust that many people are closer to Jesus because of her.  Please God bless Scott and Griffin abundantly for the sacrifice they have made.

I only met Lizz about six months ago at Victors Cancer Support Group.  We all shared our stories and I was so moved by hers!  I came to love her in every possible way <3. May the Holy Spirit comfort Scott, Griffin, Mimi, and the rest of her family now and in the days to come.

Liz was always a sweet and caring woman. I never heard her say anything bad about another person, even after the diagnosis.

I am so honored to have met you at the Shields of Hope Heroes Helping Heroes Weekend at Great Wolf Lodge.  Grateful that you and Scott were on my team (Go Pink!) so we could really connect all weekend!  Always enjoyed seeing you on my "dates" with Griffin.  He is such a handsome man. Watching him at Rebounderz was so much fun as well.  Not sure which was better, his face while jumping with the big kids, or yours all lit up with joy while watching him.  You were are very special member of the Shields of Hope family.  Scott and Griffin will continue to be part of our family and we will keep an eye on them for you!  Although your battle is now over, they begin a new battle without you.  They, too, will never be alone.  I know that you will be watching over them from Heaven and we will be there for them here on earth.  Rest easy, Lizz.  There are so many people that love you, Scott, and Griffin.  The boys will be ok!  Your love and smile will live on in that amazingly little boy.  He can be very proud of who is mother was, the strongest woman I know.  A true warrior with a heart of gold.  She will always have a special place in my heart.

Where to even start... Lizz and I met a year ago at Grand Rapids first during small groups. From the very first time we met God started weaving our hearts together. We enjoyed many heartfelt conversations over a cup of coffee and prayed together any chance we got. Lizz wasn’t just one of my closest friends, she became like a sister to me. Lizz, Scott, and Griffin will always hold a special place in my heart. I couldn’t be more thankful to God for blessing my life with Lizz as it became one of the sweetest gifts of all. Thank you Jesus!

I worked with Liz many years ago at BBB. She was always so sweet and fun to work with. Praying for her family during this heartbreaking time.

Even though I only met Lizz once, I was very impacted by her loving spirit and joy for life even though she was in pain and her body was failing her. She reminded me so much of my mom as she was in a similar health situation. We were able to relate in a way not many people can relate by mourning the loss of our mom’s within a year of eachother. She was so encouraging and loving to me when I needed it the most. I will always be thankful for the opportunity I had to talk with her on how to deal with loss of a loved one. I will forever miss her. I’m sure she rejoined with her mom dancing with joy in heaven. Until we meet again Lizz. :two_hearts:

Though I didn't have the privilege of meeting and knowing Liz in this life, I learned so much about her helping you plan your services. Hearing the testimonies of friends and family at the graveside were so moving. There is no doubt that her life touched, and was used of God to to bless and point so many others to the same Lord that she obviously loved with all her heart. I was deeply impacted by Liz's faith I heard so many give testimony concerning, and to watch you handle with grace and quiet confidence in the Lord the most difficult decisions any loving husband would ever have to make was used of God to challenge my walk of faith. I'm different today as a result.
These are hard days to be sure. Just know that you are prayed for and that your life (not to mention Liz's) is being used of God to point others to the Savior who Liz is now worshiping face to face.

It was such a wonderful tribute to Lizz. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. Such an inspiration!!!

Our sweet special Lizz.  As I said at your beautiful service  it was my privilege and pleasure to be able to spend so much time with you these past 2 yrs.  Watching you in pain 24/7 was the hardest thing for me, yet you never complained.  We talked, laughed, cried,and prayed together.  I watched you teach ittle Griffim so many things that HE will carry with him the rest of his life.   How sweet he is when he is trying to decide what color crayon to use, he puts his finger to his lips and taps and says hmmmmm.  How at the end of his meal and bedtime prayers, he says, "men" his version of "Amen and "TaaDaa". And singing "mama sharktooth.  And when Griffin would dance,  she and Scott would clapp and say, Drop it low, Drop it low, and how they all would laugh when he did.  
We would sit and talk about her Mom and just reminisce about her growing up years.  How much shr missed her mom! Griffin would kiss Gramma Mary's picture at night before bed which msde her so hsppy.
ALL the many games of Yahtze - oh so much fun!
Her life and smile was a testimony touched so many people, people and whole churches that didnt even know her were praying for her.  Her smile alone radiated her love of Jesus.
I could go on and on and on but we will share the beautiful memories of your amazing wife and mama over and over again thru the years.  ALWAYS remember my Scottie and precious Griffin. Lizz/Mama loved you both beyond words. She is your very special angel  watching over you from heaven.  She lives on in your hearts forever.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was at the funeral and honestly as sad as it was, it was also such a celebration for what Lizz stood for. She was an amazing woman, she had an amazing heart and a smile that could put a smile on anyone’s face! I will never forget her laugh. I worked with Lizz when she met you Scott and she was soooo excited! Throughout her journey the last couple of years, I had talked with her frequently and wanted to do whatever I could to help. Please reach out if you need anything!! I also know what it’s like to lose a parent at a young age, so Griffin - even though you won’t remember your mom, know that she is always walking beside you. She loved you both so much!

Lizzy Joy -the embodiment of an angel. Surrounded by love and support- all the while supporting and inspiring those around her. Her impact on those lives she touched will last for generations as the stories of her greatness are told again and again.

 I still remember when we did her Henna Crown. Hearing her story and the strength that somehow still exuded from her despite the fear and the pain. I had to leave the room several times to collect my thoughts and dry my eyes. There was a moment when this beam of light began to shine from her, even her eyes twinkled as this smile of pure joy came over her. Then to witness the love in their eyes when Scott and his dad came in to see her big reveal was something very special. Its a privilege and honor to Crown Lizz and to get to know her family, we will forever be grateful for the imprint she left on our hearts.

I never had the honor of meeting sweet Lizz, but I know she was nothing short of amazing by all the hearts she has touched. What a true testament of how each of us should live life. I am humbled to have been able to attend such a beautiful tribute to her. Recently I discovered that our grandparents were church buddies for many years. That made me feel special.

The first time I met Lizz was the Fourth of July a few years ago. It was the first Fourth Scott was working at our Department, and the City workers generally come together before the fireworks to eat, chat, and grab good seats before they disappear. Scott, you asked me to take Lizz under my wing, as she was a bit on the shy side. She was quiet with me and a bit uncertain, up until she met my girls, who were quite a bit younger at the time. She just lit up, and engaged them immediately. The quickest way to make a place for yourself in my heart is through my kids, and she wiggled her way in and never left.

Lizz, you are a warrior! You fought for life with a smile on your face and no complaint! What a privilege is was to know you! You are already so incredibly missed. Until we meet again my friend!

One of my favorite memories of Lizz was when that picture was taken. We hadn't seen each other in awhile but it felt like no time had passed. She was always so sweet and fun to be around.

Lizz was the first "Crowns of Courage" Woman I met while I was getting crowned at Beautiful You. She was getting her hair dyed purple and was nervous. She came over and sat with us and I told her I was nervous too, because I wasn't even a month into my cancer "journey".
She was so sweet, answering my questions and telling me her story. She had this grace and strength. We both talked about how God would get us through this and that we'd pray for eachother. I had no doubt that she would. We were instant friends. She just had that way about her; being this lovely person who was real. Nothing fake about her. I wish we could've had more time to be friends. I will miss her. She was amazing.

You were my first best friend, my make believe sister, and my favorite cousin. Your house and the sleep overs were a safe haven, a bright spot and cherished memories. The trampoline jumps and falling offs, the farm animals, the dogs, the cats swimming, running, hiding from family, bugging Sam, baked goods being pulled behind the truck on sleds, your mama loving me like I needed, and all the sleep overs. As we got older we werent as close but we could look at each other across the room and still share a connection I never had with anyone else.

These past few years knowing you better as adults have made me a better person. You were such a caring beautiful joyful soul and that touched everyone who knew and loved you. Watching the love you have for Griffin and the love you share with Scott was beautiful. Its something special and not everyone has in their lives and I'm so thankful you had it. I'm not ready I never would of been but I think we both know that. Wish I could of done more or been there more. I love you more than you ever knew and I love your boys more than they will ever know. Don't worry about them all of us will take care of them.  They are stuck with me. <3

My memories of Liz (L-Bo) are mostly through the way Scotty always spoke of her.  The love that he has for her is the kind that motivates you to love more fiercely.  

Liz was quite possibly the kindest, most genuine person I've ever met.  She always welcomed me into her home, whether helping Scotty with a project, it just coming over to hang out.  She was tough; very tough.  She didn't let her pain show and wanted to take care of others, in spite of how she felt.  She made lunch, offered to bring out water when we were working, and even bright out popsicles.

Liz was an amazing mother and wife.  Her love for her boys showed in every picture and every interaction.  

Liz is an inspiration.  She inspires you to find the good during tough times and to love others more than you love yourself.

She will be forever missed and never forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family...I'm just stunned by this news...completely out of touch obviously. If any family can handle this yours can. Big hugs and prayers to all of the Grams families as you grieve your loss of such a beautiful and vibrant, loving woman, mom, wife, daughter, grand daughter...I can't even imagine. We love you...God bless Lizz and her beautiful family.

My heart is heavy hearing of the loss of Lizz. We worked together at BBB and she was the sweetest, most kind person. I saw her and Griffin at Art Prize when she was promoting Crowns of Courage and I let her know I was praying daily for her and had a BBB prayer chain for her.  Today I pray for her family. May they find comfort knowing she no longer is in pain and rest comfortably in the arms of our loving father in heaven.

Lizz - what a joy!!  She truly is a Victor and was always encouraging others even as she walked this path.  I loved Lizz from the first time we met and I miss your smiling face and sweet, sweet nature.

We met Liz through Scott’s grandparents Bruce & Janice who are our dear friends. She was a beautiful young woman inside and out. Praise God she is now with him and no longer in pain. Prayers for Scott as he moves forward with his son. Sending love and prayers for everyone.

Our first time meeting was me interviewing you!   You captured my heart in that very moment.  I remember wanting to hire you on the spot!  Our friendship grew so much during this past year and I will be forever grateful.  You are and will forever be so inspiring to me.  I love you with all my heart and miss you dearly.

To battle and fight harder than some

God obviously picked you for a reason

Your faith and hope was second to none

I know it isn’t okay,  but I am mad at God today

It seems so unfair to me that he picked you to take away
