On Saturday, July 12, 2025, Elizabeth "Beth" Lask went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kay Lask; parents Sylvester and Phyllis Cunningham; and sister, Caroline (George) Delinger. She is survived by her daughters Rita Ripley, Kim Weber, Vivian (Wale) Oseni; grandchildren Kate (Tyler) Emmons, Hillary (Tony) Platsis, Erik Stam, and Elizabeth Oseni; and great-grandchildren Dominik, Payton and Noah Emmons, and Persephone Platsis; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Elizabeth graduated from Wayne State University with two teaching degrees, in English and home economics. After marrying her husband Kay and moving to Montana, where he was stationed while in the Air Force, she taught at a school for girls, helping them acquire life skills and graduate high school. They returned to Michigan after two years, and she taught at Fordson High School in Dearborn. After 10 years of teaching, she returned to start a family.
She and Kay joined Bethesda Missionary Temple in Detroit shortly after moving back to Michigan, where she found many ways to use her skills in service at the church including the nursery, teaching catechism, helping lead a seniors Sunday school class, serving communion to shut-ins, and being a deaconess.
Elizabeth's love for serving others shone through everything she did. At church she helped plan and oversee food service for banquets, weddings, memorials, and annual conventions.
Her later work years included sewing children's clothing samples for the H. H. Cutler Company, planning and cooking meals at Happy Elephant Day Care, and substitute teaching for Grand Rapids Public Schools.
Elizabeth's favorite activities included reading, knitting hats for preemie babies, writing letters and Christmas cards to friends and relatives across the country, tutoring young children in reading, hosting family celebrations, and sharing the love of Jesus with others.
Over the years, she was a member of Bethesda Missionary Temple in Detroit, Michigan; Riverside Christian Church; and Grand Rapids First Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
A service honoring Beth's life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2025 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
