

Fanny VanSolkema, age 87, of Byron Center, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, December 30, 2015. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and her love of quilting and knitting. She spent a lot of her time making things for others and was involved in various activities and groups. Although she was welcomed home to her Lord, she will continue to live on through her gifts and memories.
Fanny was born August 2, 1928 in Byron Center, MI to Orie and Nellie Geelhoed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garret (Dyk) VanSolkema, her son, Jim VanSolkema, her brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Florence Geelhood, her brother, Peter Geelhoed, and her sister-in-law, Gerry Geelhoed.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bob Koster, and daughter-in-law Vi (Terry) Rudd; grandchildren, Lisa and Jeff Rookus, Chris and Steve Brinks, Tim and Jill Koster, Todd and Laura Koster, Katie and Dave DeVries, and Mandy and Greg Helder; 19 great grandchildren; her brothers Mart (Bea) Geelhoed, and Ray (Claribelle) Geelhoed; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Jackie VanSolkema, Nina VanSolkema, Jeanie Sikkema, and John Flikkema; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 11 AM, at Byron Center First Christian Reformed Church, 8541 Byron Center Ave. SW, with Rev. Ronald Noorman officiating. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet her family Sunday from 5-8 PM at the Cook Funeral Home, Byron Center Chapel, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center and Monday from 10-11 AM at the church.
