

He went to Central High School and was the oldest of five children. He served his country faithfully with the U.S. Navy during WWII. When Farrell returned home, he married Bette and together they raised five children. He started working in the factory for Johnson Furniture. He then got into the grocery business and was asked to train as a manager. Farrell began at Krogers, and then worked for other grocery businesses for a total of 50 years. He enjoyed sports and coached baseball for many years.
Farrell was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Bette); his grandson, Stephan; and his two sisters and two brothers.
He will be deeply missed by his children Sue (Gary Bernauer) Nelson, Scott Tompkins, Mike (Jan) Tompkins, Lynda (Bob) Schut, and Lisa Kerkstra; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville. Relatives and friends may meet his family on Thursday from 10-11 AM at the chapel.
