Fred Grant MacEachron

MACEACHRON- F. Grant MacEachron, of Grandville, age 95 died on Sunday, October 14, 2001. He had recently been living at the Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti. Mr. MacEachron was born on October 27, 1905 in Hudsonville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Jean; granddaughter Tricia Cox; sister Gertrude DeWeerd; and his parents, Ida and Lamott.

Grant is survived by three children, Jane James McCandless of Port Huron, Fred Allison MacEachron of New York City, Patricia Daniel Cox of Ypsilanti; three grandchildren, Jill Michael Northuis of Portage, Scott McCandless of Port Huron, Jennifer Michael Fernandez of Norfolk, VA; and two great-grandchildren.

Grant graduated from Michigan State University in 1927. He and Jean moved to Grandville in 1937, where he was a long-time banker, businessman and civic leader. He was also a member of the Grandville First Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder several times. Mr. MacEachron was a founder and Charter President of the Grandville Rotary Club, organized in 1938. He was selected as a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow in 1977. Grant was an avid golfer who helped organize and develop the Sunnybrook Country Club, where he was the first president. In 1977 the Grandville Chamber of Commerce honored him with a Grant MacEachron Day.

Funeral services will be held Friday 11 a.m. from the First Reformed Church of Grandville 3060 Wilson Ave. SW, with Rev. Doug Van Bronkhorst and Rev. Ronald Zartman officiating. Interment Forest Grove Cemetery.

The family will meet with relatives and friends Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. from the Cook Funeral Home, Grandville west building.
