

Frederick Franklin Barringer, 79, passed away on January 17, 2015, at Brookhaven Medical Care Facility in Muskegon, Michigan. Fred was born in Coldwater, Michigan, on November 12, 1935. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1953 and worked as a civilian employee for the Air National Guard in Battle Creek until 1963. Fred married Joan Howie Barringer on April 18, 1959, and they raised four children. Fred worked as an insurance agent in the Grandville area for over 40 years. In retirement, he enjoyed his time with family and friends in Sand Lake, Michigan and Florida.
Fred was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Butterworth. He is survived by children Karla (Dan) Blalock, Mark (Sheila) Barringer, Julie (Scott) Blok, Laura (Andy) Mousseau, and their mother Joan Barringer; grandchildren Tressa (Adam) Theroux, Ethan Blalock, Tyler Blalock, Patrick Barringer, Emma Barringer, Greg (Paige) Blok, Rachel (Doug) VanStrien, Kaitlin (Aaron) Becker, Hannah (Kyle) Hanson, AJ (Chloe) Mousseau, Sarah Botez, and Peter Mousseau; great-grandchildren Madeline Theroux, Benjamin Theroux, Christopher Theroux, Evelyn VanStrien, Olivia VanStrien, Makenna Becker, Selah Becker, and Lilya Hanson. He also leaves behind two brothers Ned (Ellen) Hilborn and Michael (Marilyn) Butterworth.
Fred married Janet Flint Barringer on November 28, 1987. She preceded him in death in 2013. Surviving are his step-children Deborah (Stephen) Chappell, Cindy (Don) Whittecar, Margie Zichterman, Teresa (Todd) Trap, and Martin (Melissa) VanderVelde; grandchildren Leah Chappell, Trent Zichterman, Tara (Phil) Lien, Tori (Cam) Prins, Hayli Trap, Grace Trap, Evelyn VanderVelde, Audrey VanderVelde and Noah VanderVelde.
Visitation will be from 6-8PM on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Cook Funeral Home (West Building) - 4235 Prairie St SW, Grandville, Michigan. A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Friday, January 23, 2015, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building). Pastor Steve Deur will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in recognition of Fred's patriotism and pride in his many grandchildren who served and are serving our country in the armed forces.
