
Mr. van Hartesveldt was a graduate of South High, Grand Rapids Junior College, Hope College, and University of Michigan. Fred was a WWII veteran pilot of the 312th Bomb Group, Pacific Theater. He taught history for 37 years at Grandville Public High School where he also coached baseball and football. Mr. van Hartesveldt was the director of Grandville Summer Recreation, trustee of the Grand Rapids Historical Society, and president of the Wyoming Historical Commission.
Fred was preceded in death by his sister Helenmarie Bigford. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie; two daughters, Linda van Hartesveldt, Marcia van Hartesveldt; two sons, Eric Elizabeth van Hartesveldt, Frederick III Diane van Hartesveldt; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. from the Cook Memorial Chapel east building, 4235 Prairie St. SW. Interment Rosedale Memorial Park. The family will meet with relatives and friends Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. from the Cook Funeral Home-Grandville west building and 1 hour prior to the service Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Wyoming Historical Commission. Those unable to attend the service or visitation may sign the family's memory book at www.cookfuneralhome.com.
