George was preceded in death by his father, George E. Kinney Sr.; mother, Ruth Rose Kinney; brother, Donald Kinney; sister, Barbara Danke; and wife, Gloria Kinney (Homrich). He is survived by his twin sister, Georgia ”Cookie” LaPonsie (Oscar LaPonsie); three children Stephanie (Brandon DeByle), Dana Wilmer-Lucas (Bernard Lucas), Richard Kinney (Wendy Zakarias); grandchildren George Wilmer, Camden DeByle, Abbey Kinney. Also survived by wife, Mary Kinney and Olivia Taylor and many nieces and nephews.
George grew up in Wyoming, MI and attended Wyoming Park High School. George served as a sergeant in the Air Force and served in the Vietnam conflict. George retired from General Motors and loved being outdoors. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7487 through Holy Redeemer Parish. He also enjoyed his involvement with Amvets Post 126 where he served as a commander.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Parish, 2700 Baldwin St., Jenison, MI 49428, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. In honor of George and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids and/or to the Brian Bush Putt for Life Memorial.
