

PIERCE - Gordon Edward Pierce, age 85, of Grandville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 25, 2017 after a battle with brain cancer. He was born on October 21, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Wayne and Alma (Younkers) Pierce.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Jane (Moore) Pierce of 60 years; his daughter Cheryl (Tim) Mattson; his granddaughter, Jennifer (John) Baker, and grandson, Nathan Mattson; and his great-grandson, Phenix Baker. He is also survived by his sisters, Geraldine Willard, Darlene Brown, and Delores (Sid) VanderBaan, brother-in-law Donald Bronkema, sister-in-law Ardie (Jack) Schultz, and brother-in-law Fred (Montie) Moore, and sister-in-law Rogene Moore, as well as 38 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Pierce and Robert Pierce, and his brothers-in-law, Dale Moore, Chester Moore, Kenneth Willard and Donald Brown; and sisters-in-law Pat Bronkema, Clara Pierce, Carol Pierce and Beverly Moore.
Gordon was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. He was proud to be an American and to serve his country. He loved the American flag and whenever he saw one he would salute it and say "God Bless America." He worked for General Motors for 37 years and enjoyed his retirement spending winters in Florida. He enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, swimming and, most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandson. He knew the Lord as his Savior and served Him in the churches he and his wife attended as a Sunday School Superintendent, leading Vacation Bible School, and on the church board. He was a very generous man who cared deeply for his family and others.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Frontline Bible Church, 8283 Pfeiffer Farms Dr., S.W., Byron Center, with Pastor John Lowder officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW. (East Building), and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
