Jack’s passing leaves a massive hole in my world. He was my uncle and so much more. After my own father died, he became the father figure in my life.  He was, and remains, a model for how to be a Christian man. His strength expressed itself an aura of calm that surrounded him, even in times of trouble. He had a great sense of humor and always wore a wonderful welcoming smile. You couldn’t help but feel better and more positive when you were around him. I picture the angels singing and welcoming him to Heaven.

I remember the first time I met Jack. I was a newly wed, and was working for the Zondervan Corporation, as their receptionist on Lake Dr. Jack was a salesman, and in the door he came. We struck up a conversation and it was like talking with an old friend. So kind and so humble. I liked him right away. My husband had the privilege of working with him on the Calvary Elder board, and felt the same way. We will both truly miss seeing Jack here on this earth, but look forward to greeting him again when we get to heaven.

The first time I met Grandpa Jack was at his grandson Easton's 5th birthday party.  Our family was just getting to know the Schneiders, so of course we were meeting a lot of new faces and names to learn!  What I remember so vividly from that day is the time I spent talking with Grandpa Jack.  He walked up to my husband and I with a warm and welcoming smile on his face, asking who we were and how we knew his family...and then the conversation just flowed effortlessly and naturally for a solid half hour!  I remember feeling like we weren't strangers at all - he just had this energy about that made me feel as though we were old friends picking up wherever we'd last left off.  He asked us questions and was truly engaged in listening to our answers, and he was so open to talking about himself.  And I remember how clearly proud he was of his beautiful family - it was just so easy to see how deeply he valued his loved ones and his ability to participate in their lives, to show them how much he cared.

Later, Easton and our son Connor played soccer together, and I always looked forward to seeing Grandpa Jack at the games.  He was always smiling, always warm, always happy to be there, always obviously filled with love and pride for his family.  I looked forward to giving that man a hug and exchanging a few words as we watched the kids run up and down the soccer field.  Although he was not my family, I know that I, too, will notice his absence when I have the good fortune to spend time with the Schneider family as we watch our children grow up together.

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to spend time with Grandpa Jack.   I have to believe that my experience of him could be generalized to anyone he came in contact - he was clearly a kind and loving soul.  The world is forever changed in beautiful and meaningful ways by people like him - we are so fortunate for the time we had with him, however much that might have been. I know how important he was to his family, and with all of my heart, my love, hugs, and prayers go out to you as you navigate the days ahead.

Although I did not know Jack and Faith well (I ate lunch sometimes with her and friends when my children were young, remember both of them with loving respect through our acquaintance. Jack was a godly gentleman and servant in leadership at Calvary Church. I am praying for the whole family in this time of transition and sharing of memories, now facing the future without his physical presence, knowing that he's no longer suffering, but with his Lord. Jack was my friend! He also was a pool playing buddy at the Ridge (Holland Home). But most of all he was my coffee making partner on Tuesday mornings for over 5 years every Donut Day from 8 to 10 a.m. During golf season Jack would get up early and make the coffee so I could sleep in a little longer with the understanding I would do the cleanup at 10 o'clock since he would be on the golf course. Was a good deal for both. Super guy to be around and I will miss greatly! A sad Dan Myers will continue to make coffee!
