He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Norma Matthysse; and his brother Harry Jack Hayes.
He is survived by his brothers, Joe Peggy Hayes, Jerry Marilyn Hayes, and Jay Hayes; his sister Judy Neil Paauwe; his sister-in-law Lois; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Rosedale Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
