Jennie Olivanna Duran

For the last 2 A½ years she was totally bedridden and lovingly cared for by her husband Paul, until the Lord took him home on November 1, 2004.

Jennie was born in Allock, KY, and graduated from Wheaton College, IL.

She married Paul C. Duran on June 1, 1950.

For many years Jennie and Paul worked as church planting missionaries.

Jennie was a much loved fifth grade teacher in Illinois for 18 years.

They moved to Jenison in 1990 to be near their children and grandchildren.

Jennie was an avid reader and had a special talent for crafts and decorating.

She enjoyed writing and telling stories and loved to hear her children and grandchildren sing.

Jennie was a wonderful wife and mother.

She had a kind, gentle spirit, a warm smile and a very generous heart, and will be greatly missed.

Jennie was preceded in death by her husband Paul; granddaughter Katie Robinson; and sister Portia Vescelus.

She is survived by her children, Judy John Randall of Grandville, Becky Gary Knapp of Hudsonville, Debby Bob Robinson of Jenison, Nancy Guy Nyhuis of Otsego, David Duran of Jenison; daughter-in-law Laura Pates of Jenison; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, David Helen Akens of AL, and Daniel Martha Akens of FL.

Special thanks to Visiting Nurses and Michigan Christian Home for their loving, dedicated care.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Cook Memorial Chapel east building 4235 Prairie St. SW.

A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Cook Funeral Home west building.
