HENDERSON, JENNY- Jenny (McCorkle) Henderson, age 83, entered the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on the evening of September 14, 2014, following a stroke on August 30. The daughter of Clyde and Violet (Davenport) McCorkle, she was born in Indianapolis on April 29, 1931, grew up in Howard County, IN, attended Prairie Township School, and graduated from Elwood High School in 1949. Although offered a full college academic scholarship, she chose to forego college to devote herself to full time homemaking, lovingly serving her husband and five children.
Married on July 28, 1950, Jenny was the high school sweetheart and wife of over 64 years to her surviving husband, Fred Henderson. She is also survived by two sons and three daughters: Jay (Nancy) Henderson of Woodlands, TX, Sherry (Dave) Kaat of Grandville, Mark (Val) Henderson of Hudsonville, Joni (Dave) Mills of Portage, MI, and Julie (Mark) Seale of Phoenix, AZ. In addition, surviving Jenny are 11 grandchildren: Eleanor Henderson; Kyle (Leslie) and Rebecca Kaat; Matt (Trisha) and Nik (Kristi) Henderson; Mandi, Skyler, Payton, and Brady Mills; and Ben and Grace Seale. She also leaves six beautiful great-grandchildren: Jordan, Madisyn and Aven; Reagan and Harper; and Ava. Her sister Alice (Rebecca) Swails of Kokomo, IN, and brother John McCorkle of Frankfort, IN, also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Violet McCorkle and sister Carolyn Mitchell.
Jenny was a faithful follower of Jesus and was an enthusiastic member and very active volunteer at First Reformed Church of Grandville. Faith and Family were of utmost importance to her, and most everything she was involved in revolved around those priorities. She was an active volunteer in her children's schools and a devoted fan and cheerleader for all the sports and activities in which her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been involved. An enthusiastic golfer, she golfed in several leagues over many years. As an avid sports fan, she also pitched for her church softball team at one time and loved to watch any type of sport. Jenny and Fred's marriage relationship is an amazing and beautiful example of lasting, loving devotion. Their marriage and her example as a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother is an inspiration to all. Her immediate family was able to be with her in her final hours, and though she already is tremendously missed, all can celebrate that she is now safe in the arms of Jesus.
