Jesse was born on the farm to Glenn and Connie Phillips. Being the oldest boy of four sisters (Margaret Collier - deceased, Sue White, Brenda Hughes, and Debra Hamm) and two brothers (Clifton Phillips, Dwight Phillips - deceased), there was never a dull moment. After high school Jay served his country by proudly becoming a U. S. Air Force mechanic from 1965 - 1969. While in the service, he happened to respond to a college girl’s pen pal letter - thanks to Ann Landers, the newspaper columnist. Shortly after his duty ended, he married his sweetheart, Sandy. They moved to Jenison and started a family. They had three children Angie Phillips, Andre Phillips, and Jason Phillips. Additionally, Jay was a very proud Papa to his grandson, Jacob Phillips. He was not afraid of hard work - especially when lending a hand to neighbors and good friends like Chuck and Donna Pleggemeyer, and Bob and Roberta Fredricks.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Wednesday, June 19, 2019 with an hour of visitation prior to the service at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
