OBITUARIO

Jimmie Don Gipson

2 julio , 19415 septiembre , 2020

Jimmie Don Gipson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 5, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jimmie was born in Kennett, Missouri to James Charles “J.C.” and Avis Maxine Gipson (Baugher) on July 2, 1941. He married his sweetheart, Betty Vondran, on August 6, 1961 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Jimmie was a proud United States Army Veteran. As a Sergeant and Medic, he served during Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents J.C. and Maxine Gipson; brother, Ronnie Gipson. He is survived by his wife, Betty Gipson; daughter, Lori (Ryan) McCloughan of Grandville; grandchildren Blaine (Shawna), Jimmie, Haley, and Collin McCloughan; 5 great-grandchildren. Jimmie worked most of his life in the construction trade and was a master builder. He also worked many years as an asbestosis abatement contractor and an indoor air quality hygienist until he retired in 1998. To say that Jimmie enjoyed fishing would be an understatement. He loved fishing, especially with his wife. They spent their retirement years at Lincoln Lake and fished every chance they could. Jim was a strong man of faith, and was a member of Grand Rapids First in Grandville, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a friend to everyone he met and loved to make people laugh at his silly jokes. He was loyal and kind, and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Cook Funeral Home (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Millennium Park Grant Pavilion, 1415 Maynard Ave. SW, Walker, MI 49534, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. prior to service. Dear Betty and Lori,
I'm so terribly sorry for your great loss! I have fond memories of Mr. Gipson from times I spent the night. One memory I have was that he surprised us with bringing us candy bars. I knew he dearly and deeply loved you both.
My deepest sympathy and condolences,
Carmen

I hope you remember Jim and I. I was just thinking of Jim and Betty last week when I was going to fix some popcorn and thought about being at your beautiful home and Jim having a huge bowl of popcorn. I am so sorry for your loss. I wish we would have stayed more connected but will forever care and consider you all friends. God bless you during this time and times to come. Jesus never fails! Big hug and prayers for all.

I always loved being around my Uncle Jimmie! He was always quick with a smile or a joke. He loved his family, and most of all, he loved the Lord. Though he will be greatly missed, we have the assurance that he is at peace in the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ.

He had some kind of patience. After taking my son fishing and experiencing his excitement and obnoxious behavior I remembered I was that same kid fishing with him. He never once got upset. I love you thank you for all the fishing memories

When our son Ryan married Lori, Jimmie and Betty’s daughter, he gained another wonderful male role model. He learned so much from him. Jimmie took Ryan (his first son) under his wing. He taught Ryan what it is to be a compassionate, caring Christian father. He gave beyond generously to Ryan and Lori, and then to his four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. This world lost an earthly friend on Friday, but heaven gained an awesome angel We will miss Jimmie and look forward to meeting him when we reach our heavenly goal.
