

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Matthew Halloran, a beloved partner, friend, and mentor. He passed peacefully Friday, June 6, 2025. Matthew left leaving behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and warmth.
Matthew is survived by his devoted partner of over 42 years, Mark D. Steffke, whose love and companionship he cherished throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents Helen and James Halloran; and siblings Nancy Paumier, Pat Latus, and James P. Halloran. Matthew had many nieces and nephews whom he cherished very much.
Born and raised in West Allis, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Matthew made a bold move to Grand Rapids, Michigan, in his early twenties - a decision that marked the beginning of a transformative journey. While working full time, he pursued his passion for beauty and style by completing cosmetology school. As a talented and dedicated stylist, Matthew specialized in color, developing a reputation for his creativity and exceptional skill.
Matthew went on to own and operate the Matthew Thomas Salon in Northville, Michigan, where he became a beloved figure in the community. His commitment to excellence extended beyond his clients; he was also a mentor and teacher, sharing his knowledge and expertise with countless colleagues and aspiring professionals in both the salon and restaurant industries.
In his later years, made his home in the peaceful town of Douglas, Michigan. There, he embraced the beauty of nature, spending his time swimming, boating, and enjoying leisurely meals with close friends and family. Despite his quiet surroundings, Matthew’s vibrant spirit and infectious laugh continued to light up the lives of those around him.
Matthew’s warmth, humor, and unparalleled sense of style will forever be remembered by his friends, family, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He had an incredible ability to make others feel valued and cherished, and he leaves behind a profound impact on the hearts of those who loved him.
Matthew’s kindness, creativity, and unwavering love will endure in the cherished memories of his long and meaningful life. His deep connection with Mark and his closest friends remains a testament to the strength of his character and the beauty of the relationships he nurtured.
