
John was a 13-year retiree from the Wyoming Police Department and worked for many years with several area automotive dealerships. John was the 65th President of the Grand Rapids Jaycees, past chairman of the Greater Grand Rapids Open, an avid golfer and member of Crystal Springs C.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Alice Schelling: grandson, Alec: and nephew, Richard DeRuiter. John will be deeply missed by his family.
He leaves behind his wife, Amanda; children, Jennifer Kurt Volkers and Joe Emilie Schelling: grandchildren, Maxwell, Avery and Noah; sisters, Harriet Donald Hoogerwerf, Wanetta Jerald Czarnecki, Emma Richard DeRuiter, Joanne Larry Langston, Carol Terry Glass and Alisa Tom Van Zoeren; many nieces and nephews; father-in-law, Dan Merrily Baggett; mother-in-law, Gae James Horrigan; brothers-in-law, Darren Baggett and Phillip Kira Baggett.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday time and location to be announced.
Interment Service will be at Kent Memorial Gardens.
Relatives and friends may meet John’s family Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, Byron Center Chapel, 2067 84th SW, Byron Center.
