I worked with Karl from the time he started at Hastings until I retired in March 2005. I considered him a friend. He came to Cincinnati when I retired and my wife and I had dinner with Karl at the Hoffbrauhouse in Newport, KY. He enjoyed the good German food. My sincere condolences to Elizabeth, and Sara who I knew through Hastings, and the entire Gersbach family.

Karl was truly a great gentleman in all respects. He was an honest hard working dedicated employee. Under KarlA's leadership the Loss Control Department at Hastings Mutual Insurance Company has grown in professionalism, knowledge, and technology. Very sorry to hear this news. Karl was a quiet man at work , but, we had a number of laughter moments while trading scary pictures that each of us would get about contractors who would stack ladders on forklifts all in the name of getting the job done. I will miss that connection with Karl.He had a special humor about him. The entire family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

I can honestly say during my 37 years working as a premium auditor, Karl was the best manager that I served under. His management style was greatly appreciated. He will be missed. I would like to express my condolences to his family.

For Karl's family and friends, especially Betty, I am so sad for your loss as well as mine. When Karl first entered our Loss Control department, we had gotten off to a bit of a rocky start. Many changes occurred early on as Karl dragged us in to the computer age of the 21st century, kicking and screaming it seemed as there were quite a few glitches early on. Eventually, we got it all straightened out, the equipment as well as the system gradually improved for the better. Under Karl, our department was often given priority with some of this new equipment as time went on. Personally, he helped me grow professionally fighting for seminars, training, & certification for me; under Karl, I was able to obtain the "Senior" level promotion status for our department. Over time, Karl won us over with his easy-going, personable, caring, and professional manner. He aided in moving and expanding our department forward into new areas and larger, far more challenging accounts. I'll recall fondly about us sitting down for a lunch or breakfast and talking about such things as PC games and music amidst reviews & safety stuff. I always teased him about "Supertramp", one of his favorite groups...."It's rainin' again, I'm losin' a friend." When I hear that on the radio, I will always think of Karl and some of my best and fondest years at Hastings. I have personally lost a great supervisor, colleague, and friend. RIP bud & maybe we'll meet up again somewhere in another time and place.

I met Karl nearly three years ago when I joined the audit department at HMIC. At the time we were overloaded with paper. Karl wanted to make changes and changes we made. He was bringing us happliy from the paper world to the electronic world. He was always helpful, supportive, and a very positive influence on us all. Karl will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Although I didn't work closely with Karl, having only a few interactions, it was obvious he made a difference. Not only for Hastings Mutual, but for the staff he worked with. He will surely be missed. My sincere sympathies to his wife and family.
