CARTWRIGHT - Lawrence “Larry” P. Cartwright, age 60, beloved husband, loving father and Gramps, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, August 14, 2003 and is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus.
He was a patient, kind man, a pillar of strength and integrity, who always took the time to listen respectfully to what others had to say. Larry was a mentor to many, and a dear friend to all who knew and loved him. He graduated from Central Michigan University, and joined the Army where he served six and one half years, including two tours in Vietnam as a captain and a pilot. He served as High School Principal and Administrator for the Grandville Public Schools where he retired after 20 years. In retirement, Larry worked part time as a consultant for A.J. Gallagher. He was a former Rotarian, an active member of his church, and a community leader. Larry enjoyed vacationing with his wife Dianne, camping with his family, woodworking, golfing and hunting. He knew how to enjoy the simple things in life. Larry took great joy in his four grandchildren. He was the best Gramps any child could ask for. On August 29, he and Dianne would have celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Dianne; son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Christina Cartwright; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Todd Diekevers; grandchildren, Ryan and Shannon Cartwright and Sophie and Nolan Diekevers; sister and brother-in-law, Roni and Dick Telfer; niece Rachel; nephew Gavin; and several other relatives.
