Lyle (Tobe) Glenn Salmon, age 94 of Grandville, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home February 13, 2025. Born August 7, 1930 to Glenn and Katherine Salmon, Lyle grew up in Grandville with two brothers and four sisters. Lyle graduated from Grandville High School in 1948 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 - 1954. Lyle was twice blessed with love in his life. He married Barbara Tyler in 1955 and together they raised four boys. After Barbara passed in 1993, he married Ruth Mack in 1996. He was very proud of his 38 years working for General Motors in Grand Rapids.
Lyle is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; son, Craig; brother, LaVerne; sisters Geraldine Salmon, Florence (Jim) Vander Moore, Alice Brown, and Betty (Dale) Baaremen.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 28 years, Ruth; sons Keith and Sarah Salmon, Michael and Shanna Salmon, Dwayne and Debbie Salmon; daughters Karen and Kevin Vandermeer, Kathy and William Rand; grandchildren Sherry Gruszynski, Celia Salmon, Nicole and Mitchell Figueroa, Allison and Chandler Stevens, Kassandra and Hunter Gibson, Tyler and Brianna Salmon, Cody Salmon and Savanna Burns, Melissa and Alan Carr, Kyle and Kristen Vandermeer, Jordan Vandermeer and Lauren Wallis, Jack Rand, and Jill Rand; great-grandchildren Chardae Coleman, Carter and Morgan Salmon, Alexis and Connor Carr, Isaiah and Logan Vandermeer; brother, Glenn and Sandy Salmon; brother-in-law, Frank Brown.
Lyle was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing with his brothers, then his sons and grandchildren. Some of his favorite times were spent with his brothers, sons, and nephews Up North at deer camp and fishing for bluegill on Swan or Crooked lakes. In later years, he, Ruth, and family enjoyed many seasons at the cabin on Round Lake, fishing on Lost Lake, and enjoying campfires. He took great pride in his gardens, growing tomato plants well over six feet tall, hundreds of green beans, and some of the sweetest sweet corn around. He was an avid sports fan often found watching the Detroit Lions or Tigers; however, he was especially proud of his sons and their football and wrestling careers and supported his grandchildren’s sports with Ruth. Lyle was a longtime supporter of Grandville High School sports and could be found in the stands at wrestling meets more than 30 years after his sons had graduated.
Above all things, Lyle will be remembered most for his love for his family. As the family grew, he welcomed each new addition with loving arms, a good joke, or lighthearted tease.
