Marian Gertrude Oosterman

OOSTERMAN – Marian Gertrude Oosterman Flokstra age 77, went to be with her Lord peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Grand Rapids, Marian graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and received a Bachelors Degree from Calvin College in Elementary Education. She went on to be a teacher in Whitinsville, Massachusetts where she met her loving husband of 51 years, Myron Mike. Moving back to Grand Rapids, they had 3 boys whom she raised with a stern temperament along with a warm & loving heart. Marian continued her passion of teaching with the Grand Rapids Christian Schools. Over the years, Marian enjoyed socializing with her close friends at Sandy Pines and with the square dance club "Boots and Bows". She also enjoyed working in her later years at the Jenison McDonalds and the companionship of the other housewives that made their afternoons a "social hour" while they worked together.

Marian is survived by her husband Myron, her 3 sons and their wives Bob and Jill Oosterman, Dave and Lynne Oosterman, Doug and Courtenay Oosterman and her 6 grandchildren, Amy, Eric, Lindsay, Ethan, Whitaker and Merehn. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Lambert and Wilma Flokstra, her brother Dr. John Flokstra and her sister Anna Mae Vermeer.

Funeral service will be held Monday, March 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 60 Port Sheldon Rd, SW, Grandville. Interment will be at Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet Marian's family Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home west building, 4235 Prairie SW and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Contributions in memory of Marian may be given to Oakdale Christian School or Whitinsville Christian School.
