Marlene VanderWal of Jenison, formerly Coopersville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, May 20, 2024. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Elenore Hughey; sister, Cheryl Czerney. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah VanderWal; grandson, Marcus Huston; granddog, Drake; brothers Don (Bea) Griffore and Chuck (Deb) Hughey; and many nieces and nephews.
Marlene was a 1971 graduate of East Kentwood High School and she retired from C.A.P.S. (Coopersville Area Public Schools) as a custodian. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and granddog, Drake. She enjoyed taking trips to new places or just taking a ride to grab a bite to eat and watch a sunset. She loved being there for others offering her words of wisdom, compassion, and advice to people during their times of need. Her strength and caring heart will be missed by many.
