Charles, Many years ago I was privileged to be pastor at Wyoming Park Church where you and Mary Jane were leaders and members. I remember those days very well. Please be assured of Bea's and my supportive prayers as you move through the grief of the coming weeks and months. We are now residents at Clark Retirement Community. I was saddened to read of Mrs. SouthardA�A�A�s recent passing. I want to extend my sympathy and condolences to her entire family.
 I was fortunate to have been in her 1946 A�A�A" 47 kindergarten class, and to have taken MSU graduate classes with her in the early 1980A�A�A�s. If I had only one word to describe her, it would be: A�A�A�gracious.A�A�A? 
 I have fond memories of that kindergarten year from being stuck in the waste paper basket to taking naps in the middle of the morning. 
 I recall driving to graduate class in Grayling with her and picking her brain to take advantage of her experiences, knowledge, and personal philosophy. I learned a lot. 
 I hope some day to sit down with her loving spirit to remember those kindergarten days, & I know it will be with gales of laughter.

DearCharles,Scott&Diane; I remember the time we tied the crib and mattress of Toms to the top of our station wagon for Scotts use in the nursery. I remember our countless picnics and dinners and the fun we had together. I remember the many times Mary Jane and I went swimming together to exercise class. I remember our numerous shopping trips together. Chuck both you and MaryJane were one of our dearest friends and Sott we watched U grow up. I treasure all the memories and we have many snapshots to remind us. Mary Jane was special to me.

Dear Charles and Scott, I am saddened at the passing of Aunt Jane. Though it has been some time since we have seen each other, I have such fond memories of each of you. I recall her gentle direction, encouragement, her dedication, and of course, for me, the occassional 'limit setting'. I can still remember the sound of her laughter at Christmas, the largest steak I ever saw that you grilled, the fearsome Bassett Hound, Dan Peppler's cabin, and her shock and concern at my motorcylce wheelie that turned into backflip. Her gifts, foresight, and talent have left a legacy and largess to so many. My deepest sympathy and condolences.

My love and sympathy is with your family. I remember Mary Jane and Chuck from Wyo. Park Church. Also, my Aunt Gretchen Vander Meer and Mary Jane were good friends. Gretchen passed away 2 years ago.
 I worked with Mary Jane when I was with the Intermediate School District. 
 She was a great lady.

Dear Southard family, I had the great pleasure of caring for Mary Jane on the 3-11 shift at Georgetown Manor. I'm sure I can speak for our staff when I say that she was one of our favorite residents and that we will miss her dearly, from her gentle personality to her eagerness to sit with us at the dinner table on our breaks and just chat with us. She was a first rate person and we are all better for having had her be a part of our lives. My sincerest sympahty to you all.

Dear Mr. Southard, I was so sorry to read of Mrs. Southard's passing. She was one of my mother's Ruth Austin McCoy best friends. My mom passed away in January 2004 but I can still remember her telling of picking up Mary Jane to take her to lunch with all the other girls from their GHS group. All those girls are together now, June Timmer, my Mom, Ethel Depuit, Mary Jane. I bet they're talking up a storm !!!I too had Mrs. Southard as my kindergarden teacher back in l955. I'm told I walked off her playground at age 5 and went home to be by my Mom - good thing she and Mom were friends ! My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Sincerely, Linda Timmer

My sympathy goes out to Scott and Family. Mary was always so kind to me when I knew her at Grandville Public Schools. I would come to her feeling down at times and she would always listen and lift my spirits. She was a wonderful person and excellent administrator.

Uncle Chuck,Scott, and family I was sadden to hear of Aunt Jane's passing she meant so much to me, I enjoyed all the times we spent together especially when you traveled,and I stayed with her for company. She taught me how to look at my 9's times table differently so I could remember them as well as my 2's and 5's. and she helped me so much in other ways, I will miss her very much

I was in Mrs. Southard's kindergarten class in 1945 and still have very fond recollections of her as a gracious, kind lady....even when she made us lay on our thin pads for our naps. My deep sympathy to all the family.

I think most people remember their first teacher with warm thoughts. I was in Mrs. Southard's 1943-1944 kindergarten class in the Old Elementary building. I remember her as a kind and patient lady. My sympathy to her family.
