Matt and I served together at GVSU Police Department.  He was a good man with the drive to better himself.  He was always the guy we'd go to for help or favors... always willing to help out and alway had a smile.

I've known Matt since 1995 when I started working at Meijer in Grand Haven. Matt had recently transferred to the store and was the Loss Prevention Team Leader. I joined his department in 2000. When I got married in 2004 Matt was my best man. We had lost touch since Meijer downsized their store security departments in January 2004 and both of our jobs were eliminated. It says alot about a guy when one of his employees chooses them to be their best man. I was glad I got a chance to visit him a couple of weeks ago at Zeeland Hospital before he passed. Even though I hadn't seen him in a couple of years, I thought of him quite often and will miss him greatly. Rest in peace Buddy.

 Matt will be missed! I remember the occasion when he brought me a box of candy because I had helped him on the computer with some job applications. He was so sweet.

I am so sorry for the loss of your father, husband, and son. Even though I hadn't seen Matt in quite a while, I still heard about him from Luke. He was always so happy to visit with his Dad. Matt was always very nice to me, whenever I seen him. I remember once he pulled me and Uncle Moe over for speeding thru the college. No ticket, just a warning.......... Matt was my boss for many years while I worked at Meijer in Loss Prevention. However, he was always more like a big brother rather than a boss. We lost touch after the restructure and our positions were eliminated, however I will always think of him as a close friend. My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this time of need.

I worked with Matt at the Grand Haven Meijer. Thinking back to my fond memories of conversations with Matt, one of our first long conversations was about our mutual love for our families and friends. Matt was my first love, and we always had lots of fun and laughs. I was very proud to have him as my boyfriend. His family was always very kind to me, and I loved spending time with all of them. I think of Matt and his family every year when I travel to Hamlin Lake over the 4th of July week. We had lots of great memories there. My condolences to the family during this difficult time. I first met Matt when I transferred into LP and helped him close the old GH store. Tammy and I were once Pharmacy technicians together so I knew of Matt, but it was a pleasure to work with him and get to know his family better. Tammy, may God bless you and the kids during this painful time. Matt will be missed by many.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Matt's passing. He will forever be "Matchu H" to me. I still tell stories of our adventures into Hagar Park to my children.
