Maude Northouse, age 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 7, 2019 while surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Mark Northouse; parents Jacob and Cornelia Norden; her daughter, Cathie Yokom and her siblings Cliff (Muriel) Norden, Jack Norden and Evelyn (Hank) Spoolstra. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Jack (Joie) Northouse, Max (Julie) Northouse, Molly (Tom) McNeill; grandchildren Helen (Red), Mary (Jeremy), Angie (Scott), Colleen, Jacob, Sarah, Mark, Guy; great-grandchildren Katie (Dean), Paul, Christopher, Hannah, Russell, Josh, Ashley, Lucy, Tirzah, Grace, Alex, Hazel, Sarah; great-great grandchildren Zoey, Addie, Bradley, Lucas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Maude graduated in 1938 from Hudsonville High School, where she was active in drama, chorus and sports. After World War II, she married her love, Mark Northouse in 1945. In 1969, her husband Mark passed away from cancer leaving Maude to raise her four children. She was always a devoted mother.
Maude was a member of 8th Reformed Church and later a charter member of Fair Haven Reformed Church. She was an active member serving as a Sunday school teacher, catechism teacher, a greeter, Women’s Guild and also volunteered with Kids Hope. She loved her church and her church family.
Maude was always giving of herself. She was a foster parent, tutored children, volunteered for 30 years with the Red Cross and with other local missions for several years.
She loved to make a meal or bake muffins to give to family, friends and neighbors, often joking that she would open a muffin shop in Saugatuck and call it Maude’s Buns.
She was a secretary at Keeler Brass in the 40’s and 50’s. She was the bookkeeper for her husband Mark’s electrical business and also Northouse Marina on Lake Macatawa. Later, after being a stay at home mom, she returned to the work force and was employed by Jenison Public School District as a food service cook. Maude was always a dedicated worker. Her family will always remember her “envelope system.”
She will be remembered for her kind and positive words in every situation and her giving spirit. She will be sadly missed, but we praise God that her faith is now sight, and she is forever in eternity with her Lord.
Guests are invited to a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 in the chapel at Sunset Manor, 725 Baldwin St., Jenison, MI 49428 with visitation from 10 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
