Maxine Ann Vander Ploeg (née Vander Baan), age 87, passed away March 28, 2025, after an unexpected battle with cancer. She entered her eternal home with the same grace, compassion, and quiet strength that marked her life.
Maxine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a shining light to all who knew her—always offering a listening ear, a kind word, and a steady presence. After raising her four sons, Maxine pursued her dream of nursing. She graduated from the Blodgett Memorial Medical Center nursing program in 1986, and became a Registered Nurse. Her dedication to caring for others continued beyond her professional career into retirement—through her work as a Stephen Minister and her time volunteering to read with elementary school students.
She cherished her role as a grandmother, lovingly caring for her grandchildren throughout their formative years. Maxine also found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading, movies, gardening, traveling, and above all, spending time with family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ed; son, Steve; and parents John and Roselyn Vander Baan. Surviving are her children Ed Jr. (Beth), Jim (Karol), and Dave (Rebecca); grandchildren Kristen (Patt), Michelle (Kyle), Jacob, Mark, Kevin (Michelle), Nick, Eric (Cheyenne), Trevor (Zoe), Kati (Kyle), Kimberly (Sasha), Laura, and Emily (Peyton); great-grandchildren Noah, Nash, Jaxen, Casen, Ava, Benjamin, and Reed; brother, John (Elaine); and many other family members and close friends.
