
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lillian with whom he eloped to Crown Point, IN on August 5, 1934; his second wife, Evelyn; his parents, Frank and Jenny Brugger; his sister, Ruth Brugger; his brothers, Norman and Harvey Brugger; and his grand daughter, Abigail Brugger.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children Brenda John Fuchs, Barbara George Piers, Royce Clayton McCastle, Barry Ann Brugger, and Gary Nancy Brugger; his step-children, Claude Linda Smith, Sara Roddy Clark, and Ed Melinda Gales; his 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; his sisters and brother-in-law Betty Schindlbeck, Don Melva Schindlbeck, and Jenny Lee Deal; and many special nieces and nephews.
Melvin retired in 1975 from Gardner Denver/Cooper Industries after working there for almost 30 years. He was a longtime member of the Eagles and Moose Lodges; he loved dancing and was an avid bowler. He also loved fishing, camping, travel, and was a great storyteller.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 11th at the Christ Community Church of Spring Lake with Rev. Peter Theune officiating.
The family will meet with friends one hour before the memorial service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that food and grocery items be donated to the food pantry of C.C.C. or Love, Inc. of Grand Haven.
