Paul Corey Wiers was born April 28, 1956 in Grandville, Michigan to Edwin and Nancy Wiers. He grew up with a love for all things mechanical, especially if they were on two wheels, contained an engine, and could go fast. He joined the Navy in 1974 and served his country with honor. Upon discharge, he pursued his education in engineering. While in school, he met and married the love of his life, his beloved wife Patricia (Patty). They spent the early years of their marriage in Houghton, Michigan with their children Stacey (Timmer) Tessmer and Aaron Timmer while he attended and graduated from Michigan Technological University. He later earned a masters degree in mechanical engineering from University of Wisconsin and a masters degree in business from Northwestern University.
He began his career at Clark Equipment and then was able to realize his dream of working for Harley Davidson. He retired as a vice president of engineering in 2013. While at Harley, he was involved in sponsored motorcycle drag racing including the holding of a world speed record. Upon his retirement, he and Patty relocated to Michigan where he pursued his many interests in building and rebuilding motorcycles, cars, and boats. One of his favorite spots was “Plant 2” where he devoted his time and energy on his mechanical pursuits. He spent time training and walking the various routes of the Spanish Camino. One of his most memorable treks was one he took with his grandson, Patrick. Paul was a humble, honest man who had a deep love for his family, his friends, and especially his wife. He cared for people and was often involved in deep conversations where he demonstrated his commitment to learning and understanding - usually these were held while enjoying a good glass of red wine.
Paul passed away at home in his beloved “Plant 2” on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. He is survived by his cherished wife of 39 years, Patricia (Westra) Wiers; daughter, Stacey (William) Tessmer and their children Patrick Thelen, Karsen (Dylan) Keuler, Chloe Tessmer, Hillary (Victor) Larson, Beth Tessmer, Karlee Tessmer; son, Aaron Timmer. His sisters Barbara Vlietstra and Patricia (Terry) Johnston; in-laws Bob (Robin) Westra, Henry (Carolyn) Westra, Charles (Kay) Westra, and Marikay Dobbins; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
