

Richard proudly served his country as a Veteran of the United States Army. After his military service, he built a career as a self-employed professional, dedicating himself to his work and independence. Outside of his career, Richard loved spending his time outdoors, connecting with every part of nature; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and countless other activities. Richard’s passion for the outdoors shone onto his family and friends, many of them finding joy in Richard’s interests and knowledge.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents George and Enid; brother, Bill (Shirley) Thompson; brother, David Thompson; and niece, Sharon Viviano. Richard is survived by his nieces Sheryl Thompson and Shelly (Rick) Hogue; nephew, Craig (Sonja) Thompson; sister-in-law, Jackie Thompson; and special friend, Zack Wood, whom he considered his son; along with several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who cherished his presence in their lives.
A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Cook Funeral Home (West Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418.
