

Robert Lewis Verburg, age 84, went home to be with his Heavenly Father Wednesday, January 31, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Henrietta Verburg; brothers, Dale and Loren Verburg; and brother-in-law, Alvern Poest.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Carol Verburg (VanAntwerp); children Robin Verburg, Randy and Debra Verburg; grandsons Leland and Spencer Verburg; sister, Mary Poest; sisters-in-law Sue (Rudy) Baker, Mary Verburg, and Willa Verburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was a man of service. He served in the United States Navy and the United States Navy Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He worked as an engineer for General Motors for 33 years. Bob served on the Grandville Zoning Board, the board of both Grandville Athletic and Band Boosters, as well as the consistory of Bethel Reformed Church and First Reformed Church. In his retirement years, he continued to serve his community working at Cook Funeral Home for 15 years.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who was active in the lives of his beloved family. He was also a dedicated and true friend who loved spending time with family and friends, especially at the cottage on Glen Lake in Northern Michigan. Bob was a gentle man, quiet and kind, who never missed an opportunity to help others.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10 at First Reformed Church, 3060 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, Michigan, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Rev. Matt Cook and Rev. Jeff Watson will officiate. Interment will be at Grandville Cemetery. In honor of Bob, contributions may be made to First Reformed Church of Grandville - Scholarship Fund.
