Dear Basham's,
 I am so sorry to hear about your sudden loss! What a sad day. I know Scott because I was next-door neighbors to Jerry and Jeanne for about 20 yearsA... To his sister Lisa, I am so sorry for the loss of your brother.
 I do, especially, understand what the children are going through... when my dad died, at almost the same age as Scott, it was the saddest, most isolating, and worst day of my life, even 13 years later. 
 We my husband and I won't be able to make the funeral, as I am working for the Red Cross that day, but please pass along my condolences and prayers to the familyA-the hardest and most unfair place is for those left behind. Parents should never have to outlive their children, either. 
 Also, if the children need someone to talk to, who understands what it's like losing a dad as a child, and the questions that come up in our minds, please have them email me IA'm a teacher now... My heart goes out to them, because a Dad is never forgotten... and the pain can be unyielding, especially to children. They now have another guardian angel.

 "Footprints in the Sand" by Mary Stevenson
 One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. 
 For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, You said that once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." 
 The Lord replied, "My son, My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I Carried You."

Shock and disbelief were how many of us spent Thursday afternoon at Spartan when we learned of Scott's passing. Scott was one of the first people I met when I started in merchandising at Spartan over 2 years ago.
 I will always remember him as a dedicated worker and family man. I will also remember his charisma, intelligence, and his ability to always say what's on his mind.
 To Amy, Kayla, and Kyle... I cannot begin to fathom the loss you have endured. Scott is a great man that I really feel fotunate to have known.

To the Basham family: You do not know me, nor do I know you. I had the pleasure meeting Scott for the first and last time on Wednesday morning. I was his nurse at Advantage Health. Scott had a lot of questions regarding his new health lifestyle and I had the pleasure of talking with him for a good half hour. It was the only half hour I have ever spoke with him, but in the short time I realized how nice of a man he was. When coming to work on Thursday morning and getting the phone call, my heart sank. Sometimes we dont know why God takes the ones he does, but he has a special plan for the ones left behind. May God give you the peace and understanding that your family will need. It was great meeting Scott on Wednesday and I'll never forget the half hour to 45 min I spent with him.

I had the distinct pleasure of having Scott train me in a new process @ Spartan a few years ago. I absolutely loved working with him as we laughed and kidded around more than we worked, but somehow he had a way of making a person understand things. I remember telling him he should have been a teacher. Scott was a wonderful person to many people, and you have my sincere condolences to you and your children, and the rest of your extended family.

I never had the pleasure to meet Scott, although I grew up knowing Amy. Becoming re-acquainted with Amy, earlier this year, it was evident that my wonderful, dynamic high school friend had grown up and married an equally wonderful, dynamic man, whom she described as "her rock".
 Amy, my heart is devastated for your loss. May God wrap you and your children in his loving arms, surrounding you in strength, peace and love and when the loss of your "rock" seems overwhelming, may God cradle your cheek in his hand and whisper wonderful memories in your ear.

I worked with Scott 15-17 years ago at the 36th Street D&W. Our paths have crossed over the years as I still work for Spartan Stores. Scott has always been a very pleasant person to be around. Amy- Although I came to know Scott initially through our work interactions, I came to consider him one of my better friends in the business. His passion for life, and for "doing the right things for the right reasons" professionally, made him a person I, and many others, admired. I happened to run into Scott in the Spartan lobby shortly before his first hospital vist, and he took the time to stop and catch up on things, in a very genuine and caring way. I missed not seeing him regularly then, and I will miss him more so now. We have a fond memory of your family coming by the house for the BC fireworks display a couple years ago.
