Sharon Lou Malmquist, affectionately known as “Sheri,” age 82, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Angeline Wiersma; infant son, Michael Hannink; husband, Allen Malmquist; daughter, Michelle Allan; brother, Robert (Betty) Wiersma; and brother-in-law, Dale Thompson.
Sheri is survived by her daughter, Sunny Luanne (Bob) Ferguson; grandchildren Ricky Deems, Joey Ferguson, Sammy Ferguson, Sean (Angie) Allan, Derek (Ashley) Allan; several great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Thompson; brother, Roger (Dorinda) Wiersma; son-in-law, Larry Allan; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Born in Zeeland, Sheri attended Zeeland High School. She was a woman of deep faith and a devoted servant of the Lord. Sheri had a warm, engaging spirit, and was known for her great sense of humor and her ability to make friends wherever she went. Together, Sheri and her husband, Al, had the joy of traveling and living in many states throughout Al’s military service in both the Navy and the Army.
A passionate reader and lover of the arts, Sheri enjoyed creating and crafting beautiful things. She was an excellent cook, and her kitchen was always full of love. Her meals were a treasured part of many family gatherings, and her cooking had a way of bringing people together. Her grandchildren were a big part of her life and she cherished every moment spent with them. Those who knew Sheri also knew that she had a unique gift - things seemed to regularly break around her, almost as if by magic.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Sunset Manor for their loving support during Sheri’s stay. The hospice workers at Emmanuel and Corewell Hospice are also deeply appreciated for the compassionate physical and emotional care they provided to Sheri and her family.
Please join her family for visitation starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan, with Sheri’s funeral service beginning at 3 p.m. A private interment will take place at Zeeland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Sunset Legacy Foundation in Sharon's honor. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their online guestbook.
