Shirley Ann Walker, age 88, went to Heaven on December 28, 2024. She was born and raised in Chicago, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Frank (Dick) Walker, who preceded her in death. They were married for 61 years and shared their greatest joy, their family of five children, Andre (James) Carter, Dawn (Thomas) Waltz, Rachel (Richard) Berglund, Bryan (Ami) Walker, Amy (Kevin) Miller; their 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and their extended family and dear friends.
The doors of her home were always open, a reflection of her generous spirit. Shirley was masterful at running a busy household. She was a remarkable hostess to her family, friends, and Grace Bible College students, providing lodging and anything from delicious meals to popcorn, for anyone who entered their home. Later, "Grammie" delighted in loving and hosting her grandkids at "Cousins Camp." Shirley enjoyed cooking at Grace Youth Camp (now Grace Adventures) and school camps. She was involved in Bible Study Fellowship and helped Dick with team building seminars for many churches and businesses. Shirley helped run their family business of Heavenly Ham, which employed many sweet family and friends. Shirley enjoyed traveling, painting, sewing, and sharing time with loved ones across the US and mission fields around the world. Most recently, she has enjoyed her Rivertown Ridge community friends. Shirley’s faith, kindness, and smile will forever remain a cherished part of her legacy.
A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. prior to service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Adventures in Shirley’s honor. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
